Frequently Asked
Questions
What is counselling?
Many people who decide to seek counselling are often unclear about
exactly what is involved. Counselling is not about giving advice giving
or telling someone what to do. It involves the skills of listening,
supporting and helping to facilitate insight into your own personal
resources, which can sometimes get lost in times of stress and anxiety.
How do I get started?
If you decide you would like to try counselling then an initial
assessment will be arranged for you in order to meet the counsellor and
decide if you wish to continue the process. There is no obligation on
your part to continue at this stage. It is your opportunity to see if
counselling is right for you – the most important thing at the outset is
for you to feel comfortable with the counsellor. After the initial
assessment, the counsellor will agree a contract with you regarding the
frequency and number of sessions required and the way forward.
How long does the session last and how often does counselling take
place?
The session lasts for approx. 50 mins to 1hr. Sessions are usually
held on a weekly basis to allow for continuity, but this can be varied
if necessary, due to work commitments, holidays etc.
How are meetings arranged?
Your counsellor will agree session times and dates with you at the
initial session.
If for any reason you are unable to attend a session, please give at
least 24 hours notice, otherwise you may be charged.
How much does it cost?
Counselling sessions cost £40 for individuals and £45 for couples.
Prices for supervision can be provided on application.
Availability?
I see clients during the day, evenings and Saturday mornings.
How long will it take?
Counselling is a process which requires commitment and can last for
short or long periods, depending on your needs. Sometimes only a few
sessions are needed to ease your situation or if deeper issues emerge a
contract for longer term work can be discussed. In any event, the
decision to undertake short or long term work is entirely yours.
